[ and true to her word, there's a knock on the door not too long after. it's a little weird, going to see rachel like this, since clarisse hardly knows her and isn't entirely sure what she's even going to say about all this vision business ... rachel's always been kind of percy's friend, anyway, so it's just ... all around kind of awkward, but it's not like she can really talk to anyone else about this until the next royal audience when maybe ridire might be able to give her some insight if rachel can't. ]
[ oh. whoa. okay! Rachel's actually pretty fine with visitors in general, and having Clarisse stop by is kind of new, but she's more surprised in a good way than anything else. until she takes a second to really think about it, then it occurs to her that it must be pretty serious if she doesn't want to talk over the lockets. so, yeah. she's not going to read too much into the visit as a social thing, she probably needs to talk shop. about visions, like she said in that first text ( or what she guessed she said, she's still not sure if she translated that right ). that said, she's quick to answer the door, stepping back so Clarisse can come in. and her room isn't as fancy as all the demigods' rooms, but she's got a like, court jester level room. and she's totally fine with it. ]
Hey. [ it's starting to sink in now that she doesn't have to be as um, on her guard as she would be back at camp when a demigod came to visit her. the wrong question wouldn't send her into a trance ( most likely ) and she's not even sure she can see anyone's fate anymore ( let's not test that ), so she has an easy smile on her face, all very normal ] ... So, how're you? [ .....okay maybe it's a tinybit awkward ]
[ clarisse steps inside as soon as rachel opens the door, expecting to get straight to business because that's how she rolls. she barely even hears rachel's "hey," too lost in her own head to notice, but she stops her charge into the middle of the room and turns when rachel asks how she is. uh. she frowns, slightly perplexed. ] ... Fine? [ it's not supposed to sound like a question, but she's really not accustomed to small talk. it's pointless, in her opinion, so she's just going to get straight to it. ] I need to talk to you about visions.
[ Rachel actually kinda loves smalltalk, but she's glad to get right into it this time. she's curious! and.. maybe a little worried, but mostly curious. ]
Yeah, go ahead. [ it's not unheard of for a demigod to have a dream about the future in some way, related to quests or someone else's quest, but it's rare any of them actually call it a vision. so, she's interested ] I'm guessing you don't mean in the general sense. Did you see something?
[ clarisse hesitates, rubbing at the back of her neck absently. ]
Yeah, I saw ... [ well, a lot of things, actually. maybe she should start at the beginning, though. ] Well, the monarchs gave me this thing called a sunburst relic or something — I don't have it anymore or I'd show you. I had to shatter it and it gave me a bunch of visions. I mean, not all at once. It was a daily sort of thing.
Every morning for a week, I'd see a vision of the future. [ visions of war, visions of peace, visions of intimacy and romance, of love and hate and fear and joy. she saw a little bit of everything, which was probably the point. still, some of the visions concern her, which is why she wanted to talk to rachel. ] I just ... how much of the future is actually set in stone? [ there, she'll translate what she texted earlier. ]
[ she has about 500 questions about the relic, why she got it ( though she could guess ), what the dreams were of, but first- ]
Nothing's set in stone. Even in prophecy, I think there's always wiggle room. [ she pauses ] With visions, it's tricky. If you see specific people doing specific things, it could be a vision of the future, or more like- a warning. Something that could happen, if you don't take measures to prevent it. Visions are only a possibility, more than anything else, as far as my experience goes.
But your situation sounds different, if I'm getting it right - smashing a relic, do you think that gave you the power of sight, or do you think it just ..contained the visions, somehow? Maybe fate works that way here. Maybe it is predetermined, and somehow that relic was a way for the monarchs to share it with you. [ she shakes her head ] You'd have to ask them to know for sure.
